There are several symptoms associated with long COVID, which occur in an individual irrespective of the nature of the COVID infection.
The long COVID conditions have aroused interest among researchers who are still working on how these conditions occur and what is the mechanism behind its occurrence.
As per a study published in The Lancet journal 12.7 percent of those who had COVID-around one in eight , suffered from long-term COVID symptoms. The study was done between March 2020 and August 2021 and more than 76,400 adults had participated

The study is based on the observation of those people who contracted the infection during that time. It found that around 5.5% or close to 4,200 people got COVID during the study of which 21% had at least one new or severely increased symptom three to five months after becoming infected.
It also found that nearly nine percent of a control group which did not have COVID reported the long term symptoms too.
The study found persistent symptoms in COVID positive participants at 90-150 days after COVID.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also said that long COVID conditions occur after 3 months from the infection.
As per the study the symptoms in the participants were chest pain, difficulties with breathing, pain when breathing, painful muscles, ageusia or anosmia, tingling extremities, lump in throat, feeling hot and cold alternately, heavy arms or legs, and general tiredness.
The common long COVID symptoms are extreme weakness or fatigue followed by breathlessness, cough, and muscle ache. Other symptoms are: persistent cough, trouble in speaking, loss of smell and taste, fever and lack of sleep.
