stated above ,look within your lifestyle habits and see what habits need to be changed or improved. Note the current mindset and beliefs and how they may be contributing to the mental health. Who is speaking into your life, advising you, how is the work environment and family environment.

Let’s talk about diet: for so many of us, food is both an essential component of our lives yet also a source of distress or worry. How does someone determine what’s the best diet for feeling well and aging in a healthy way?

Food is vibrational and also a medicine to our bodies, you have to identify food that make you feel good, lighter and energised rather than cranky, tired and bloated. The most important principles when it comes to food are lean more into plant based meals, add more fibre and greens, lean protein and water. Eat mindfully with portion controls and eat at the right times.

One commonly used phrase these days is “gut microbiome”- can you talk about this and why it’s so important?

Gut microbiome is the healthy bacteria found in the gut which is necessary for a healthy and functional body. When the gut microbiome is disturbed the body goes into an imbalance and immunity is also compromised. The gut is termed the body’s second brain therefore an unhealthy gut impairs the nervous system which may lead to mental health issues like depression, stress and anxiety .This can be fixed by lifestyle modifications like limiting alcohol intake, smoking cessation, eating fermented food and good quality sleep. One other important issue when it comes to preserving the gut microbiome is limiting the use of antibiotics and use them only when necessary, complete course whenever prescribed.

What’s most important for those getting on in years to understand about feeling well and staying healthy? Does the calculus change as you get older?

For those getting on with the years the principles are basically the same, sty active, eat healthy food, invest in good quality sleep, get out in nature more and don’t forget to play and laugh often. Work on your mindset and challenge yourself often.

What motivates you to get up each day?

Life motivates me,people motivate me,and a desire to be more and contribute to humanity in meaningful ways inspires me to wake up each day. I want to give people hope, to make them believe in themselves more and leave a legacy for my children and generations to come.

My mantra is BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.

How do you de-stress?

The best way for me to distress is by listening to inspirational content, playing with my kids, gardening ,reading or being out in nature. I also find taking a herbal bath or burning my essential oils very soothing and nourishing. Sometimes it’s calling a good friend and laughing over some silly stuff. What’s the best piece of health advice you ever received?

Self-love and self -care are the most important things in your wellbeing. When you love yourself it’s easy to invest whatever it takes to ensure your optimal wellbeing then when your cup is full it overflows to others. Community is a very important and essential part of holistic wellbeing, no man is an island, you can have everything in the world but if you don’t have people to laugh with, enjoy with , share with then you are poor.
