COVID-19 disrupted Manifesto implementation - Masisi
The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) 2019 general elections planned Manifesto implementation was disrupted by COVID-19 which caused ripple effects across economic sectors.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi told his party’s elective congress in Tsabong that as a result, his government had to come up with comprehensive plans and solutions within the blink of an eye.
According to Masisi, the priorities that they set themselves in 2019 had to be revisited. He indicated that they reprioritised activities and developed the RESET Agenda.
“Through the RESET Agenda, the BDP-led government committed to redouble efforts to deliver the promises made to Batswana in 2019. Despite the challenges encountered, COVID-19 could not extinguish our dreams for Botswana and Batswana.
“It merely altered the time frame within which we are to realise such dreams and plans. We remain committed to leading the country on a path to economic recovery and transformation through the creation of inclusive wealth and decent jobs,” Masisi said, when officially opening the BDP National Congress in Tsabong.
He explained that the pandemic bedevilled political activities hardly five months after the party won the 2019 general elections. The president told the delegates that the BDP won the general elections on the strength of what they promised Batswana, their record and their ability to see through a common dream.
According to Masisi they have made strides in the right direction and managed to achieve several projects.
