- BY KEFILWE MONYADZWE

Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) General Manager’s charity walk that took place in Orapa has raised P1.6 million after a three-year suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stanbic Bank CEO, Chose Modise said they have constructed eight houses for the less privileged families in Boteti at a cost of P1.2 million from the proceeds of the walk.

“Additionally, in 2018 the charity walk contributed P1, 2 million towards the construction of a Special Education Classroom Block at Tsienyane Primary School in Rakops. This project has been completed at a cost of P4, 75million,” Modise said. He added that his bank strongly believes that it is not possible to achieve sustainability until communities are comfortable. Modise implored the mine, its employees, Boteti business community, Boteti Sub-District Administration and Council, and the entire Boteti community to continue demonstrating the spirit of ‘pulling together,’ as it would go a long way in improving the lives of Batswana. OLDM General Manager Mogakolodi Maoketsa said they endeavour through their Corporate Social Initiatives (CSI) to create a legacy of prosperity among the communities in which they operate and to partner with likeminded entities and individuals to improve the lives of Batswana.

“We continue our quest to raise money to improve lives in our communities,” Maoketsa added that the initiative began in 2002 to raise money for deserving communities.
