- BY SUN REPORTER

Botswana’s tennis sensation, Denzel Seetso continues to rise as an international prospect after the 17-year-old won the 2022 ITF J5 tennis championship held in Gaborone this past weekend.

The consistent player won the tournament after defeating Benjamin Scott of South Africa 6-0 6-2. Following Seetso’s victory, Botswana Tennis Association president, Oaitse Thipe said the win has gained the star player a lot of international tennis points that will ultimately get him closer to competing at the Australian junior open. Quizzed on what was next for the player, Thipe said: “He will miss the ITF World Series Grade 5 this week to play the ITF 2J. Our hope is that he will do well and almost guarantee playing in the slams.” Seetso is currently ranked at 277th with 270 points having moved up 10 places in the ITF world rankings. The player commands an impressive 11th place in the Africa rankings. Thipe further continued: “If he reaches the top 100, he can either go to a top college in the USA or go pro. Even though Seetso is currently at no. 277 in the current ITF ranking, Thipe said chances are that the local star would crack the top 100 by the end of the year. “The tournaments we hosted this year including in April gave him about 120 international tennis points.”
