HOPES HIGH AS KHAMA ATTENDS THE REED DANCE

-

Murmurs of hope and advance jubilation permeated the social media space these past few days as former president Ian Khama posted pictures of himself in eSwatini where he attended the famous reed dance. The reed dance, also known as the Umhlanga Ceremony, is where on an annual basis, King Mswati chooses another virgin wife among the hundreds who would be gathered for a sing and dance carnival that has now become a tourist attraction.

You will recall that once when in eSwatini for a SADC meet, Khama could not stop talking about the reed dance during his official speech, focusing more on the beautiful women who grace the occasion, and asking for more SADC meets to go to eSwatini and to coincide with the Umhlanga week. He even said he would introduce it in Botswana. Now everyone on social media has been making connections, saying maybe as a renowned bachelor, he too had asked to be given a chance to make his choice. Several posts and comments on the circulating pictures point to only one thing – that soon we may hear he is getting married. The scepticals have however chipped in to say he is only there to help his brother choose. One wonders why they would say so when the brother already has his own woman. We shall be keeping our ears to the ground in case the big lion has made a catch!
