- CITY KEAGAKWA

On July 05, 2022, Keitumetse ‘Ben10’ Dithebe, strode into the turf at Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat-Morroco, little known was her name, before the 44th minute.

The Mexican Girls starlet introduced herself to legions of football fans across the African continent with a stunning curling effort that will live long in the memories of many.

Dithebe once again demonstrated the prowess of her deadly left-foot with a long range free-kick effort that silenced the home crowd in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Born in July 2002, the Mexican Girls striker is arguably one of the hottest properties in women football as she is not short of suitors, both locally and internationally.

Her club side are aware of the interests of other clubs and have put a tag of P150 000 to her name as she is one of their highly valued assets. Gaborone United Ladies team, who were recently promoted to the Gaborone Central Regional Football Association Women’s Football Division 1 league, have vowed to strengthen their side. Close reports suggests that the Reds have already made contact with the player and her representatives.

The club director Nicolas Zakhem has reiterated their intent to improve their team and make it equally competitive as their male side. According to close sources to the developments, Gaborone United bosses have offered a reported amount of P20 000 with a 30 percent sell on clause to the Gaborone West based side and that has since been turned down. Mexican Girls in their counter offer have suggested that they will be prepared to accept P50 000 with 25 percent sell on clause for future sales of the player.

Negotiations are currently ongoing and it is expected that an agreement could be reached soon.

Gaborone United have reportedly also engaged the parents of ‘Ben10’ and everything has been agreed as the Money Machine have presented a lucrative deal which includes paying for her preferred course.

Personal terms have also been agreed but the player is awaiting the two clubs to reach an agreement.

Before leaving for her COSAFA cup tournament in South Africa, Dithebe told this publication that she harbours a dream to play abroad.

“Of course, it is every player’s dream to play abroad, my team is working on plans to facilitate a move and I am waiting on them, for now I am focusing on the national team,” she said. Gaborone United have already signed Lone Gaofetoge, who was also part of The Mares team which put up an impressive showing at the recent Women Africa Cup of Nations, played in Morocco.

The former Lusaka Dynamos defender signed a two year deal and further additions to the team are expected to be made as Gaborone United looks to challenge Double Actions and other top local sides.
