MEN’S CONFERENCE PLANS TO END SOCIAL ILLS

- BY LAME LUCAS

A Lobatse-based Bandleng Social Club is organising a men’s conference on November 19, to mark international men’s day and to discuss ways to resolve the social ills plaguing society. The conference will be held under the theme, ‘Unlocking the power of men and boys to make our own town better.’ A spokesperson for the Social Club, Thomas Jim told the media on Tuesday that the conference also aims to honour men and recognise the important role that they play as fathers, brothers, boyfriends, sons, uncles, and colleagues in society. The programme will cover mental health, prostate cancer, GBV, and relationship tips. The conference will combine speaking, music, and exhibitions of vendors targeting men from clothing, grooming, and other business opportunities. Club chairperson, Loatile Seboni said the conference will also encourage men overwhelmed by the challenges of everyday life to speak out, something he called, “Man up and Step-Up Gents.” Seboni noted that nowadays not a day passes without seeing or hearing about cases of violence, the majority of which are perpetrated by men. He said the Bandleng Social Club comprises a group of people who grew up in Lobatse and formed themselves into a social club with the aim and objectives of bringing back the groove into the town.
