GOVT TO KILL FMD AFFECTED CATTLE

Government is due to begin depopulating the Zone 6B area in the North East, where Foot and Mouth Disease was recently detected. The culling exercise is expected to affect villages such as Jackalas 1, Ramokgwebana, Tsamaya, Tshesebe, Butale, Senyawe, Siviya and Mabudzane. A containment zone where cattle would be vaccinated and quarantined for a period of not less than 30 days before being slaughtered at an approved abattoir will also be provided. Affected farmers are to be compensated.
