Leg-breaking catfight reaches court
Tshepiso Rankolosa (40) of Kanye is determined to make Gaone Monthe pay for assaulting her and leaving her with a broken leg.
Rankolosa has dragged Monthe before court to answer for the violent behaviour she portrayed on her back in 2020. Rankolosa told court this week that sometime in September 2020, she met Monthe at Lucky Seven butchery. She was going inside the shop, while Monthe was coming out.
When they met, Monthe angrily asked her why she had shouted her name the previous day and without giving Rankolosa a chance to explain, hot slaps landed on her face and the rest of her body. Monthe slapped her hard even when she tried to get away from her. She continuously beat her to a point her body could not take it anymore. In the midst of the hot slaps, Rankolosa felt a sharp pain on her left leg, she does not know what happened but she was suddenly unable to walk. “My friend Ame Montlhaka carried me to the car and we went to the police station where a case was opened against her. “I was then taken to the hospital where I would later be transferred to Marina hospital in Gaborone then taken to Bokamoso private hospital where I was operated on,” she said. When asked to cross examine Rankolosa, Monthe who was representing herself asked the complainant to tell court what she had used to injure her leg, to which Rankolosa said she was not sure. All that she remembered were the multiple slaps that landed on her body. “I do not even know where you disappeared to when I cried in pain unable to walk,” she said.
Doctor Emmanuel Ibe (32) who attended Rankolosa when she was brought to Kanye Adventist hospital said his patient was conscious but in painful distress. “Her clothing was intact but there were stains of dirt. I do not know in detail what had happened but I think it was said that she was assaulted according to what she had told the hospital staff before I attended to her. She had bruises on her leg,” the doctor said. The doctor added that
an X-Ray conducted proved that her leg was broken. Investigating Officer Ethel Mhlauli (28) told court that when they told Monthe that Rankolosa had opened a case against her, she did not deny beating her. She was then told that she will be charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm. The case continues this month with prosecution expected to bring in more witnesses against Monthe.
