EXTENSION GUNNERS AND THE RELEGATION FICTION

-

And so the Botswana Football League finally confirmed what Lobatse giants Extension Gunners had been telling their supporters and other football lovers all along. Gunners officials never took the BFL and BFA seriously when the world was told the team was relegated to the lowest structure of the local football leagues. Remember that issue of club licensing involving five clubs? Everyone who was asked about the matter in Lobatse laughed scornfully at the talk of their club relegating, saying the BFA and BFL were clowns. The confidence of Gunners on this matter was so high they never at any one point stopped selling their merchandise and other products related to the premier league to their supporters. Even in the early days of the announcement of their relegation, they continued to market their ticket sale booths for the premier league; announced incentives for supporters, some of which involved attending for free their premier league home games.

Many football lovers kept wondering why Gunners did not seem perturbed by reports of their relegation as instead the Peleng giants were seen busy registering new players for the premier league season. When asked why, they would simply say bone ga gona lerole le ba le yang. We hear they were eventually made to pay P15 000 and pardoned by FIFA. Someone surely knew what really was going on while football lovers had their emotions worked up for nothing!
