Dr Gaositwe Chiepe’s life has been nothing short of inspiring, paving a way for many women of Botswana from the time the country was still in its infancy.

As a woman of many firsts, Dr Chiepe will next week reach another milestone, 100 years of age. President Mokgweetsi Masisi, Vice President Slumber Tsogwane alongside other cabinet ministers paid homage to her this Tuesday.

An elated Dr Chiepe was dumbfounded that both the president and his vice came to visit her. She says the warm gesture proves that the first citizen of the country still remembers her and the work that she has done for the nation.

The centenarian indicated that leaders must always do things for the people and always put the needs of the people they serve ahead of theirs.

Masisi reassured Dr Chiepe that the government of Botswana has not forgotten her. He said that they will celebrate the milestone that Mme Mma Chiepe has reached as her life has been an inspiration.

Masisi is happy that Dr Chiepe is still in good spirits even at an old age. He further pledged to continue to honour those that have gone ahead as this will ensure “we don’t lose ourselves.”
