BATSWANA WILL CELEBRATE YOUR DOWNFALL ANYDAY

-

And so we learnt of Vee filing for divorce at a court in Maun, hoping the matter would go unnoticed compared to when it was filed in Gaborone. Not in this digital era Vee! The world nowadays is just too small to think you can take your court matter anywhere far from the people of Gaborone without such information reaching all the corners of this globe within seconds! And now that the matter quickly became public knowledge, one cannot help but remain agape at the casual manner in which Batswana reacted to the sad news. In fact, they were just in a celebratory mood – none sat to think that these are two people who have shared everything for the longest time and certainly no one gave a thought to the collateral damage that is going to visit their children.

The wife made things worse with her uncalculated posts on social media, taking away any form of sympathy that may have been reserved for her. It is to her that many actually passed unflattering remarks that rebuked her rather than counsel her. To her credit though, within 24-hours she had deleted all those posts although a little too late as many had already reposted them. What was clear however was the lack of empathy from from Batswana who made the story of the divorce a matter for stand-up comedy audiences, with some men already fighting for the attention of Vee’s wife, talking such things as ‘Ke mo itlhophetse pele banna.’ We cannot reproduce some of the things that were written but one thing we have learnt – Batswana will celebrate your downfall – any day!
