Student missing for two weeks, child neglect blamed

- BY NEO KOLANTSHO

A distraught Peloentle David (24) of Tonota is appealing to members of the public to help them locate her niece, Segolame David who disappeared from home two weeks back.

The family is worried sick about Segolame who is a Form two student at Letlhabile Junior Secondary School. “We have no idea where she went, some people say they saw her in Francistown but we have not been able to locate her. Please, we plead with anyone that has information about her whereabouts to help us,” she pleaded. They have already enlisted the help of police but finding her niece is proving to be slow. Tonota Station commander Oteng Nganda was not able to confirm if the case was indeed registered with them. “I will have to find out first before I comment,” he said. Asked about the whereabouts of Segolame’s mother, Peloentle said the mother, who happens to be her elder sister, was in Selibe Phikwe. She accused her sister of having neglected all her three children, the first born being Segolame, the second a standard six student while the last is in standard one.

“She left them all here at home. I have been the one taking care of them all this time. I try my best to ensure that they do not lack anything,” she said. Reached for comment, Segolame’s mother, Segametsi David, said it was not true that she has abandoned her children. “Tonota Police called me yesterday and I told them that I will be home month end. I have not abandoned my children, I left them in the care of my mother,” she said, adding that she is aware that her child is missing and she is equally worried. “I am not here for fun, I am hustling. I just found a new job that’s why I have not been able to go back to Tonota at the speed of lightning although my child is missing,” Segametsi said.
