The newly-established Metlobo App aims to foster lifelong learning through collaboration with government.

The App was conceptualised in April 2022, with a mission to mitigate the information and knowledge delivery to enhance e-learning as a way of closing the information gap. Founder and Managing Director of Shesmart, an edu-tech company, Thato Mpudi says the App is convenient for students. “Metlobo is a simple repository solution App that gives students relevant information, anywhere, anytime and promotes self-paced and self-directed learning, hence the slogan Metlobo, the library App,” she says, adding that the App enables convenient use as it can be taken along wherever one goes.

Apart from students, Metlobo also enables continuous learning for employees who have adapted to the knowledge-driven economy.

Mpudi said their target market is every student in need of any academic information, from a primary school student to an employee furthering their studies. The mobile app has had great reception with potential users from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Morocco. “The most current and exciting feedback we have received is our team making it into the Venture Cup Denmark top 100 impact-based teams from around the world,” she says, adding that they have also qualified as a top 10 finalist for the Orange Social Venture Prize Botswana. Some of their challenges include raising capital for the business. Mpudi tells The Midweek Sun that their biggest dream is to collaborate with government and bring change within the technical education space. “Our future plan is to collaborate with government to foster lifelong learning in light of Botswana’s Vision 2036 pillar of Human and Social Development,” Mpudi says.
