Man feels let down by his insurance company

- BY NEO KOLANTSHO

A Gaborone resident, Anande Gajudhur, 64, is worried that he might lose out on a chance to cash from his insurance with Bryte Insurance Company Botswana.

That is if he fails to provide the insurance company with an invoice that clearly states the cost of car parts that he bought to fix his damaged car.

According to the distressed man, he insured with Bryte in November 2021, paid them a total of P35 000 as personal and business insurance. His policy documents reveal that the insurance is for a period of one year, it expires next month.

In May this year, Gajudhur’s wife was involved in a car accident and she was found to be at fault.

“I took responsibility to fix the other car knowing that my insurance will cover our car. I went to them and they told me that I should go ahead and fix the car then give them an invoice.

“There was no how I was going to buy new car parts because the cost to repair my vehicle would have been more than its value after subtracting the recycle or salvage value,” he said, suggesting he bought the used parts from individuals.

“But when I went back to them they demanded the receipts and I had none,” he shared.

Gajudhur is frustrated and feels that the insurance company is putting him in a corner. They had to be clear from the start that he is expected to buy new parts.

“They assessed the extent of damage, they saw the damaged parts I feel it was at that time that they had to advise on what to do. Why let me fix the car thinking I will be paid only to do this to me,” he wondered, further accusing the insurance of not working with him in good faith. “My policy is elapsing and so I will soon lose out,” he said. Bryte Insurance company had not responded to a questionnaire sent to them on the matter by

press time.
