BotswanaPost goes digital on stamps
BotswanaPost’s digitisation journey has landed the company on transformation of the nation’s historic postage stamp collection and issuing new stamps using the non-fungible tokens (NFT) technology.
The development comes after BotswanaPost signed a deal with a European blockchain development company, Stampsdaq Estonia OU.
“With NFT stamps, we aim to create a whole new level of collection experience for all collectors around the world, and Stampsdaq’s business model suits our needs perfectly,” said BotswanaPost Chief Executive Officer, Cornelius Ramatlhakwane. Botswana’s first postage stamps were issued in 1966 and the philatelic developments have been growing and to date, historic stamps collection has over 1100 unique stamp motifs. Stampsdaq is a dedicated NFT stamps platform which implements the model of a OneStop-Shop solution for starting and developing NFT business for a postal operator, using the model ‘Collect with Benefits’ for the global collector community. “At Stampsdaq, we believe that using blockchain and NFT tech to enhance such an established and trusted collectibles market as philately is a perfect opportunity to bridge millions of aging philatelists with their more tech-friendly children and grandchildren,” said Chief Executive Officcer of Stampsdaq, Andrii Shapovalov. BotswanaPost is the third postal operator on the platform joining La Poste de Côte d’Ivoire and Bhutan Post, whose NFT stamps are already selling on stampdaq.com.
