The official opening will be held on Tuesday I st at 6pm.
After an exhibition by Kuru Art project in June this year,Alliance Francaise of Gaborone is proud to host the country’s visual art icon. Over the last 20
years, Wilson Ngoni built an amazing collection of paintings, depicting human beings from childhood to adulthood, as a mirror reflecting the artist’s own personality and emotions. His journey as an artist is a journey to unveil himself therefore, the theme “Painting myself.”
In his catalogue Living with the brush, noted that he paints as he sees and interprets reality.”I’ll not have a good excuse for not becoming Wilson Ngoni. I must paint how we all feel as a people; not just how I feel as an
individual. My manner of painting is a ritual activity that signifies my sense of belonging. If I don’t belong, then I am empty,” he said.
Ngoni’s art is deeply rooted in the context and history of his country. Depicting life in Botswana, its landscapes and wildlife, is also persistent in his work. Through his art, he demonstrated, and continues to showcase his ability to master a wide range of techniques that leave the audience amazed. Whether he “brushes” in a realistic way or an abstract way, whether the audience
can catch a glimpse of cubist or surrealist styles, he developed his own art trait with the recurring colourful dots as his own signature.
Alliance Francaise of Gaborone, a linguistic and cultural centre, is not only an education centre as proven by the promotion of multiculturalism through artistic, cultural and social events.
