GOVT. RESPONDS TO CHALLENGES FACING THE ELDERLY

Government is in the process of developing meaningful policies and guidelines to enhance a holistic response to challenges faced by the elderly. When commemorating the International Day of the Elderly, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Tebogo Bagopi said such policies and regulations would complement existing ones such as the Old Age Pension and the World War II Veteran allowance. The initiatives were critical particularly since the latest UN projections showed that by 2050, the number of persons aged 65 and above would increase significantly, Bagopi said.
