GUNNERS SHOOTS ITSELF
Suspends coach ahead of crucial opening league game
After surviving a forced relegation due to their non compliance to club licensing requirements, following a lifeline to re-submit and comply by the First Instance Body (FIB), Extension Gunners played the opening league game without their newly appointed Head Coach, Oupa Kowa, with confirmation that he has been suspended.
Whilst his no-show at the club’s training grounds was understandable in the early weeks of the pre season, as he was assigned to lead the national under 20 team, which competed in the COSAFA championships in Maseru Lesotho, his absence in the past two weeks before the start of the season was rather surprising.
Police XI were not in a compromising mood on Sunday at Otse Police College stadium as they thrashed Mapantsola 2-0 to add misery and engrave pain to the hearts of the troubled local giants and its legion of supporters. However, the defeat was surprisingly not the talking point, but rather the absence of the coach, with reports emerging that he has since been suspended by the club.
“Yes he has been suspended, the club apparently did not know about his involvement with the national team and this has caused a serious rift. From close reports, they are claiming that they did not receive any communication from the Botswana Football Association (BFA) requesting the services of the coach,” a close informant shared. Reports further state that, the contractual agreement between Kowa and Gunners was done at Lekidi Football Centre during a time he was in charge of the national U20 team and yet there are claims that the club was clueless about his where about.
