Abby Urban Beauty strives to enhance natural beauty

- BY IRENE SHONE

Abby Urban Beauty, a local makeup company looks forward to opening a beauty parlour one day, as well as producing relevant beauty products to meet market needs.

Abigail Botho Modidi, the founder and makeup artist at Abby Urban Beauty says makeup is not just about good looks, but is also also therapeutic as it’s a confidence enhancer. In an interview, she told Vibe that her vision is to heal people through makeup, by making them feel happy through her artwork of makeup on their faces. She is fully aware that in order to achieve this, she has to work harder, and the positive feedback she receives gives her the courage to evolve the makeup industry around through her own beauty parlor one day. “To me makeup is happiness, makeup is confidence. After getting my makeup done I sparkle, feel prettier and feel like I can conquer the world. I want to use this similar therapy on my clients, so that they don’t see makeup as a beauty enhancer only,” she said. Modidi decided to be a makeup artist in 2017, when she started by utilising the YouTube tutorial makeup lessons on herself, then eventually on family and friends, who later introduced her work to the people out there. “Soon, I got referrals and I never looked back since then,” she said.

She is currently based in Tsholofelo, Gaborone and her goal is to grow her beauty parlour, have a mobile option and also offer her services outside Gaborone.

Modidi said the support from her clients keeps her motivated. “My clients love my makeup. I get a lot of positive feedback from them, and when they come back for my service it’s always a bonus motivation, that keeps me going,” she said. She believes what sets her apart from other makeup artists and beauticians is the fact that she focus on soft glam and natural makeup.” We believe in not changing one’s entire look, and so Abby Urban Beauty slogan is ‘We define beauty, we define you’ because we are not about stealing away one’s natural beauty but rather enhancing it.”

Modidi is normally booked for birthdays, graduations, photo-shoots, bridal makeup, corporate and other special occasions. She said she is working hard to grow her client base and become a popular makeup artist. She has laid her magic hands on some well-known figures like Oratile Kefitlhile, and she looks forward to working with many more celebrities and public figures.
