BURS LANDS SEAT AT ATAF COUNCIL
Botswana Unified Revenues (BURS) Commissioner, Jeanette Chanda Makgolo has been elected to the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) Council at the General Assembly meeting in Nigeria.
“The Council provides strategic direction to ATAF work in the field of capacity building, research, technical assistance and training as well as for the development needs in various regions,” said BURS spokesperson, Mable Bolele, adding that the Commissioner will serve for two years in the Council.
Bolele said Makgolo will represent the Southern Africa ATAF region on the ten member Council.
ATAF is a pan-African network providing platform for intra-Africa collaboration and peer-learning between tax administrators, targeting to improve the capacity of African tax administrators, enhance the role of taxation in governance and state building.
Makgolo’s appointment to the think-tank organisation’s Council at the Forum’s 7th General Assembly (GA) comes after (ATAF) has announced plans to put on spotlight tax revenue strategies for economies on the continent.
ATAF strives to build efficient and effective tax administrations in Africa to become the leader on African tax matters, enhance economic development and improve the living standards of the people of Africa.
