- KELETSO THOBEGA

It is often said that dynamites come in small packages, and kwasa kwasa star Franco is a classic example of this saying. He might be lightweight in physical appearance but his spirit and talent are massive.

The star comes from humble beginnings but has risen through the ranks to attain national stardom status as one of Botswana’s best music artists. All that talent wants is to be used! And that’s what he did this past Saturday when he treated his fans to the launch of his 19th studio album at Fore Farm. The six-track album comprises of songs such as A lwa le Mzambia, which is the title track, Kolobeng, Kgalagadi o a tuka, Samba, Ke boela Gabane and Sethabi sa Mokgatla.

The 52-year-old Franco is a living legend.

The soft-spoken artist is a man of very few words and he is using his artistry and lyrics to narrate a life journey. He has told Vibe that he has always striven to make music that is reflective and has substance. “Each song I make has a message and every album has a story behind it,” he said.

Franco’s voice was a dominant feature on kwasa kwasa legend, Nata Capricorn’s hits. But his album Ke lela le lona released in 2001 was the making of this formidable powerhouse. Franco went on to release albums such as O nyala leng, Khutsanyana, Spekere, Koti koti, Baesekele, Sephiri se dule, Majakathata, Ke fela pelo, Ke lorile sengwe, Zeng zeng ke eng, E ya le nna Babilona and lastly, Mene mene tekele, which he dropped in 2017.

Franco’s song composing and story telling ability always come to the fore in each of his albums, and whenever he drops new music, he always delivers the best!
