PUPILS LEARN IN MOTHER-TONGUE
For the purpose of inclusivity and equity, Sheyeyi, Thimbukushu, Naro and Nama will be the basic medium of instruction from preprimary to standard two pupils from January next year. This follows the development of the Botswana Languages Policy in Education this year aimed at promoting language development and quality education that is accessible, equitable and relevant to all learners. In his state of the nation address delivered on Monday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said that schools would further incorporate Afrikaans, Kwedan, Isindebele, Tjiherero/Otjimbanderu, Shegkalagari, Ikalanga, Cishon, Chiikuhane and Sign language as media of instruction.
