-

Former army general, former MP for GabaneMankgodi Rre Pius Mokgware on Monday night wrote that he wanted to comment on President Masisi’s SONA but before he could do that, he wanted to know why the address was not in Setswana. He wrote: “Before I comment on the SONA can I ask is’nt it time to speak to Batswana in Botswana in Setswana the language they all understand?” Ijaa, General a ipolaisa batho – especially those who shared his social media post away from his wall, to question the irony of his post. Some even on his wall asked him why he was himself posting in English if he felt Batswana needed to be addressed in Setswana. “Wena o botsa potso ka sekae?” one asked. Others asked him why he wants Setswana imposed on them as they too would want to be addressed in their own languages of Seyei, Sekalaka, Sekgalagadi, Seherero and others. Another said ene e bile he never understands Setswana sa ga tautona, going on to ask gore “go riana pula ya masubelele go tewa eng.” They even asked about the international dignitaries who were invited to Parliament, like ambassadors and UN representatives. In general, The General was asked to stick to commenting on the SONA and stop looking for unnecessary attention.
