BOTSWANA CLOSEST TO ELIMINATING MALARIA
The Gaborone Rotary Club collaborating with Pan African Vivax and Ovale Network (PAVON) from Ghana donated eight malaria microscopes worth P2 million to the Ministry of Health. This follows Malaria Microscopy training by PAVON in Gaborone earlier this year, which helped some of the local laboratory scientists and technicians to attain a Level One External Competency Accreditation for Malaria Microscopy (ECAMM), a level recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO) for one to be a competent malaria microscopists and trainer. Botswana is among eight Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries targeting to eliminate malaria by 2025 and is the closest to reach the target.
