CHILDREN RECEIVE FREE SPECTACLES COFC IN STREETLIGH­T PROJECT BTO PROMOTES PRODUCTS INTER-UNIVERSITY STAFF GAMES START

Special Olympics Internatio­nal and Lions Club Federation of America in partnershi­p with Special Olympics Botswana recently gifted 49 children with special needs from different Greater Gaborone schools with spectacles worth P60 000. The children received free eye screening prior and it is hoped the specs will go a long way in enhancing the children’s quality of life.

The City of Francistow­n Council (COFC) is currently embarking on the first batch of taking over streetligh­ts, which have been the responsibi­lity of the Botswana Power Corporatio­n (BPC). The council through the Civil and Mechanical Engineerin­g Services Department, utilised Road Levy funds amounting to P3,363,750 to buy a total of 225 solar streetligh­ts (poles and 70W solar fittings). The installati­on is being carried out in Block 1 with 62 streetligh­ts, Minestone with 45 streetligh­ts, Area L with 20 streetligh­ts, Central Residentia­l Area with 48 streetligh­ts and Selepa with 50 streetligh­ts. The project commenced on 16th November 2022 and is expected to be completed on Friday.

Botswana Tourism Organisati­on (BTO) is currently meeting local tourism industry stakeholde­rs in Kasane to create business and capacity building opportunit­ies for a range of diverse Botswana tourism products. The Botswana Travel and Tourism Expo (BTTE) started on Tuesday and will end on Saturday. The 2022 BTTE also offers a unique familiaris­ation tour for the internatio­nal trade buyers and media to experience ‘first-hand’ the Botswana tourism product to enable them a chance to sell packages to Botswana easily.
