PSLE mastery course to give pupils a head start

- IRENE SHONE

The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) Mastery Course Programme, an initiative designed to prepare primary school students for exams is an initiative of Tebogo Lebanna who reveals it was created to improve students’ academic performance and prepare them for examinations.

The programme is intended for primary school children in standard five to standard seven.

“Within the segment, there will be two sessions. A session for standard five and six pupils and the other session for standard seven students, with 26 children in each session,” she explains.

As a teacher by profession, she is convinced that the initiative would help students to build the foundation of their future success by providing them with mastery skills and academic excellence for all subjects.

The programme has mastery skills relating to confidence, self-esteem boosting, examinations mastery, as well as essay writing mastery for both Setswana and English.

As Botswana Examinations Council PSLE report of 2021 indicated, “candidates could not fully express themselves and lacked creativity in their continuous writing examinations for both English and Setswana, leading to a downfall in their grades,” Lebanna says. She adds that the programme was established to close the gap of essay writing challenge among children,” she said. She is happy with the feedback that she has received so far and says more than 20 parents have already registered their children. She has already been to television and radio stations to engage on this initiative. Their vision is to provide a positive platform for academic excellence and life skills.
