NO CONFIDENCE IN THE JUDICIARY

Former President’s quest for justice in our courts has glaringly become a far-fetched ideal. Cases against him have nothing to do with the law but are politically charged battles sponsored by the Office of the President. The aim is twofold:

1. To keep the Former President out of the country and away from Botswana politics to ensure smooth and unmarked BDP campaign for the 2024 elections;

2. To put him out of pocket and hopefully frustrate and drain his financial resources for him to give up on litigation.

Some Judges of the High Court and the Court of Appeal also do not inspire confidence in the judiciary. They no longer decide cases on substance but on the basis of which side they belong to; most consider themselves indebted to the executive and will do anything to please the OP. Lawyers appointed to act for the State and the Attorney General have lost regard for ethics. They take to court any instruction, bad or good, just to line their pockets. As Former President’s lawyers, we are constantly victimized, intimidated and denied work opportunities and access to critical information. We have heard enough of your complaining sir, and you keep repeating the same thing about the president this and the president that. We know you don’t like him for tricking you into giving him the presidency of the country and we know he too has no respect for you. Whatever your fights, the truth somewhere lies, and that truth can be revealed through the help of the courts. The courts have called you to come answer for your charges, instead you run away to South Africa. The South African state has charges against Jacob Zuma, but he lives happily at his home where he has been searched and harassed too. He is home fighting against the charges. Just do the same sir. Come back home and prove your innocence.

There is nothing wrong with the judiciary seeing as you have been winning cases against the state. Why does this one make you uncomfortable? When you win cases all is well. When you lose you attack the judiciary. [TUMELO MOLEFHE]

It’s not only Khama but everyone who has a case with the government, it seems like it has become their modus operandi to employ delaying tactics and frustrate their opponents to an extent that they seem to have no regard for the rules and they will even fail to come to court without any excuse.
