Kids marathon returns in April
The second edition of the Summer Kids Marathon will be hosted on April 2023. However, a lot of growth and changes are expected at the growing marathon.
Speaking in an interview this week, co-founder and organizer of the marathon Martin Fanie said the marathon continues to be non-competitive.
“This will be a non-competitive marathon but a fun run which contributes towards the health and fitness of children.”
He added that the aim for this year is promoting wellness in children and raising funds to support the less privileged and marginalized children in the society.
In their inaugural edition the marathon attracted 320 kids despite their target of 250. “This year’s edition is targeting at least 500 kids to participate in different categories of this marathon,” he said.
Fanie also noted that the marathon will provide the much needed mental wellness among kids and also aims at providing a suitable environment for children from different
backgrounds to interact.
“We have aligned ourselves with the National Vision 2036 strategic intent of ‘Towards prosperity for all.’”
The marathon will also prioritize making a difference through the execution of the corporate social responsibility project, procurement and donation of school books and shoes to the needy children around Botswana. The marathon will accommodate kids from as early as 3 years to at least around 16 years of age participating in at least five categories.
With inclusion being one of the values the marathon finds pride in, they have thus introduced a category of children with special needs.
The marathon is believed to be a safe outing as kids will be running in and around CBD, with the Botswana Police Services, Red Cross Botswana and a number of Marshalls involved
Registration fees for 3-4 year and special needs children will be P180 while the remaining categories will be P220.
