TOWARDS A MEANINGFUL 2023!
It’s a brand new year, and may be inundated with setting new resolutions. The setting of new resolutions may comeon the backdrop of failing to achieve what we have put upon ourselves the previous year. Nevertheless, there is surely need to be involved in goal setting that has utmost prioritisation for our mental health needs! What is in stock for us in regard to promoting our mental health this year?
I will recommend that people focus on personal growth. It is integral that we have some sort of responsibility towards our lives by being self-aware of own strengths and weaknesses. Self-awareness allows individuals to set goals and values that help with their growth hence realise their own human potential.
As we start the New Year, we can discover the meaning of our lives by creating work or passions that we follow. Let us be involved into something that we always look forward to doing and are fulfilled following accomplishment! This will enhance the quality of life as our focus will be on what we can do and not on what we can’t do!
Let us build and nurture relationships. The experience of love and beauty on another human being is magical in enhancing their positive mental health. As an example, several studies people points to the fact that many people with chronic diseases often survive when they have “personal bonds,” thus it should be our priority to nurture relationships.
We experience emotional pain in most of the unavoidable situations in our lives. Our attitudes as responses to such situations often shape our mental health. As we deal with such dire situations, let us not allow them to actually define us as failures but rather we can use such situations as a springboard to success! Let us rise through adversity by use of our inner resources and turn tough situations into success stories! We need to develop abilities to deal with suffering!
Mike Dooley asserts that, “life is not about expecting, hoping and wishing; it’s about doing and becoming.” We don’t just live, there is purpose of why we are alive. As posited by Viktor Frankl, “life is not something, it is the opportunity for something.”This now offers the opportunity for us to start living. Have meaning derived from what we do in our lives. As we start year, let’s gear towards fulfilling our human potential and have meaning from what we do. Living a meaningful life augurs well for our mental health! Happy New Year!
