OATLHOTSE PROCEEDS TO FIDE WORLD CUP

This past weekend, Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) held the FIDE World Cup Qualifiers at the University of Botswana, in which five (5) top local athletes competed to determine the winner to represent Botswana at the 2023 FIDE World Cup.

The round robin format was used to determine the winner of the competitio­n and Internatio­nal Master Providence Oatlhotse emerged the champion after a hard-fought two day battle with other local players. Oatlhotse was tied with Gomolemo Rongwane on the final day and a deciding match was arranged, playing blitz of five (5) minutes for four (4) rounds, where Oatlhotse won 3-0. Mokwadi Mokwaledi Tingwane, the BCF Secretary General said that, the tournament went well.

“Everything went well, more so that it was only five (5) players competing; we always encounter problems when we deal with large groups of players. It was easy to manage the proceeding­s and the environmen­t was also conducive, UB has become our prominent host,” Tingwane shared. The five (5) players were selected
