BNOC cleans up the City
In a display of commitment to environmental sustainability, the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) teamed up with various local organizations for a successful cleanup drive in the Block 10 ward of the capital city Gaborone.
This initiative, organized to commemorate World Clean Up Day 2023, demonstrated the BNOC’s dedication to its strategic priorities, aligning with global sustainability efforts and making a positive impact on both the environment and the community.
As an integral affiliate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the BNOC fully embraced the Olympic Agenda 2020+5, a comprehensive framework that underscores sustainability as a fundamental pillar of the Olympic movement. This commitment harmoniously aligns with the United Nations’ seventeen Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular emphasis on SDG 13 - Climate Action. According to a recent press release from the BNOC, the incorporation of sustainability principles into their strategic priorities exemplifies the BNOC’s unwavering commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint while maximizing its positive impact on society, the economy, and the environment. This holistic approach highlights the organization’s dedication to creating a more sustainable and eco-conscious future.

Committee, Gaborone City Council, and Botswana Anti-Doping, the BNOC spearheaded a highly successful clean-up campaign in Block 10, Gaborone. This initiative aimed to tackle the global solid waste problem, including the pressing issue of marine debris, aligning perfectly with the goals of World Clean Up Day 2023,” the statement reads World Clean Up Day is an annual global social action program orchestrated by the international organization, Let’s Do It! World. This initiative unites individuals and communities worldwide in a collective effort to combat the dire challenges posed by waste and pollution. The event serves as a powerful reminder of the critical need for sustainable practices and environmental consciousness on a global scale.
