In a strategic move to enhance its engagement with the public during the upcoming elections, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has officially unveiled a user-friendly mobile application. The announcement was made by UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa, who emphasised the simplicity and accessibility of the app as key factors in bringing the political process closer to the people. According to Mohwasa, the UDC’s mobile application is designed to be a comprehensive tool that not only connects the party with voters but also serves as an informative platform. Mohwasa highlighted the importance of ensuring that upcoming voters understand the significance of the impending elections, framing them as an opportunity for real change. According to him, the power to bring about regime change lies in the hands of the ordinary man and woman who exercise their right to vote. He explained that the upcoming elections are a pivotal moment for Botswana, and it is essential for every citizen to recognise that they play a crucial role in ushering in the much-needed regime change.

The UDC mobile application is a step towards creating a more informed and engaged electorate, Mohwasa explained. Furthermore, Mohwasa said that the user-friendly nature of the application is expected to bridge the gap between the political party and the general public, making information about the elections easily accessible to all. Mohwasa underlined the party’s commitment to ensuring that the electorate is wellinformed on pertinent issues related to the elections.

To complement the mobile app launch, the UDC plans to implement a comprehensive media strategy aimed at sensitising the voting population. This strategy will involve a multifaceted approach, utilizing various media channels to disseminate information and raise awareness about the upcoming elections. Mohwasa stressed that this initiative is imperative, as it aims to empower citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

The mobile application is expected to serve as a one-stop platform for voters, providing them with easy access to relevant information, party updates, games and educational resources. By leveraging technology, the UDC aims to create a more engaged and participatory electorate, ultimately strengthening the democratic foundation of the nation. The UDC application will allow for multiple functionality for membership solicitation and enrollment, voter education, election campaign information and podcast link to a dedicated YouTube channel.

This will also include a help desk to assist members find information on the party, manifesto, how to register to vote and information on polling stations among others. The other salient feature is a donation portal that links to various payment platforms and online banking systems. The App also features an educational quiz game, a platform for FAQ and information platform for current events. It also features a job opportunities link including all the basic information on the party, the contact numbers, addresses and links to other UDC social platforms including Facebook, the official UDC website, X and Instagram.

The application will soon be available for free on both the Apple store and Google Play Store. Following demonstration of the features of the App functions at the Tuesday press briefing, the application will be allowed to go live and members and the public would be able to download it. “As we move along, improvements will be made as and when the need arises based on the feedback from the public,” Mohwasa said.
