The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) is getting ready to host the first series of the track and field events at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown on the 20th of January. The BAA hopes to attract a large number of participants to the event, and is working hard to make it a success. According to the BAA Vice President, Oabona Theetso, the event will include several track and field events, and the BAA is wellprepared to kick off the first track and field series of the year 2024. Theetso noted that the events are crucial for athletes who are looking to qualify for major events in the coming year. He emphasized the importance of these events for athletes of all levels and encouraged everyone to participate. “These events are qualifiers for all major championships this year, and we will be hosting more track and field events throughout the year. Right now, we’re laser-focused on making this event a success and attracting as many participants as possible,” Theetso said. For us, it’s an opportunity to continue to develop and promote athletics in Botswana. It’s a chance for athletes to take their talent to new heights and achieve their goals. We’re committed to supporting all athletes, whether they’re experienced or just starting out,” He added. Theetso emphasized that everything is ready for the event and the only thing missing is the athletes themselves. He encouraged all track and field athletes to participate in the event, highlighting that the BAA is committed to supporting and developing talent. He added that the organization is looking forward to showcasing the beauty of Botswana athletics and will continue to provide opportunities for athletes to grow and succeed. “I want to highlight that this event is only open to our affiliates and schools. We’re excited to discover new talent, but it’s important to note that athletes should take each series seriously. While there will be other events throughout the year, each one is important in its own right. We want everyone to put their best foot forward and give it their all,” he mentioned. Theetso stated that the BAA aims to continue doing well this year and hopes to have representatives at all major championships. He emphasized the importance of qualifying for these events and bringing home medals from all the competitions on the calendar for the year 2024.
