As we embark on this new year, I extend my heartfelt welcome to each one of you. The dawn of 2024 brings with it not only the promise of fresh beginnings but also the opportunity for transformative change in crucial aspects of your lives.

The recent BIAS 5 results, revealing the increased prevalence of HIV infections among young people, underscore the importance of taking charge of our health and well-being. Let this be a catalyst for a collective commitment towards a healthier future. Botswana’s Vision 2036 boldly states a goal of no new HIV infections, and as the youth, you play a pivotal role in making this vision a reality.

Sexual health is an integral component of overall wellbeing. Embrace open communication about safe practices, consent, and mutual respect in relationships. Taking charge of your sexual health not only safeguards your future but contributes to the broader goal of eliminating new HIV infections.

Emotional wellbeing is equally vital. In a world that often seems fast-paced and demanding, prioritize self-care and mental health. Seek support when needed, and be a pillar of strength for those around you. By fostering emotional resilience, you contribute to a community that thrives on empathy and understanding.

Social connections are powerful influencers. As you navigate social landscapes, be aware of the impact your actions have on those in your circle. Advocate for inclusivity, challenge stereotypes, and contribute to a society that values diversity and mutual respect.

Financial literacy is a tool for empowerment. Develop skills to manage your finances wisely, laying the groundwork for a secure and stable future.

Financial stability not only enhances your individual well-being but also contributes to the broader socioeconomic fabric of our community.

This year, let us collectively embrace the challenge of turning the tide on HIV infections. Your choices and actions matter. Strive for a 2024 marked by responsible behavior, supportive relationships, emotional well-being, and financial empowerment. Together, let’s pave the way towards realizing Botswana’s Vision 2036 of a future free from new HIV infections.
