The Midweek Sun

And Losing over 50kg (Part 1)

-

How did emotional eating affect your daily life, relationships, and overall well-being?

It was very expensive as I spent a lot of money on comfort foods such as chocolates and cakes. My medical bill was also high as i was always sick, sometimes I would get notice from medical aid that I have exhausted my annual allowance. The most painful part was I was not able to play with my kids the way I wanted. I so much hated it when people comment when I dish for myself at events.

What motivated or inspired you to start your weight loss journey?

I followed Afiya with Dr Lebo for a long time when she was obese, I was just curious to see what she will do with her weight since she is a dietitian. By the way I am a Home Economist too. So her transformation gave me courage that I too can.

What strategies or techniques did you find most effective in overcoming what held you back whenever you tried to lose the weight?

I just decided to make it a personal journey, No weightless challenges, No dependence on anyone. Just a solo journey.

Did you seek professional help or guidance (therapists, counselors, nutritionists) during your journey? If yes, how did it contribute to your progress?

The first step was to acknowledge that there is a problem I need to deal with, for this one I cannot shy away from mentioning my mentor Prophet Cedric. Because I knew the depth of my problems I didn’t just do counselling I went to psychotherapy, it was expensive but it was worth it that’s when

I started the journey of selfdiscovery. I also got help from the Dietitian/Nutritionist Afiya with Dr Lebo. It was expensive but worth the expense.
