WILD WEIRD RAGE

- BY NEO KOLANTSHO

A17-year-old minor of ward, Mabalane village in the Kgatleng District has been remanded at Moshupa Boys prison for allegedly beating and injuring his mother and father last week.

On Friday, Mochudi Magistrate court heard that the minor attacked his 56-yearold father with a thin gum pole for unknown reasons - he had not been provoked nor had the parents said anything to him.

The mother (47) was alarmed by the repeated whips landing on the old man’s body as if he was just a small baby being rebuked for misbehaving. Shocked and worried, the mother tried to intervene, asking the boy what wrong the old man had done to get such brutal beating. Instead of giving her a response, the boy turned his attention to her, hitting her hard on the head with the gum pole until the mother fell to the ground unconscious.

Seeing that the mother was dealt with, the minor then went back to his father and continued battering him so much that the old man’s right arm broke twice, both the upper and lower area of the arm are injured. Realising the harm he had done, the alleged abuser fled.

When his mother finally regained consciousness, she ran to the neighbors for help. The police were called, leading to the eventual arrest of the boy hours later. The parents were rushed to the hospital and because of the severe injuries sustained, they were referred to Marina Princess Hospital (PMH) in Gaborone for advanced medical attention.

The father is currently hospitalised at PMH while the mother has been discharged. Court is expected to carry a psychiatric assessment on the boy in an effort to get to the bottom of his irrational behavior. The minor who is currently facing a charge of grievous bodily harm, will be back in court on the 28th March 2024 for mention.
