BCP promises child grant for needy families

- BY THEO MAILAKGOTLA

The Botswana Congress Party will introduce a monthly P300 grant for every child in a needy family if it is given the chance to lead Botswana after the general elections in October this year.

This emerged during a panel discussion held in Otse and led by BCP Secretary for Labour and Parliamentary Candidate for Boteti East Constituency, Daisy Bathusi on the Manifesto Chapter on Women, Youth and Children.

Bathusi said the BCP government will give money to poor families that have children. These families will get P300 every month for every child they have.

In addition to the child grant, the BCP has also announced plans to provide for children whose parents are unable or unwilling to care for them.

“We will institute legislative reforms to ease the burden of care by individuals not ready to be parents. The BCP Government will create efficiencies in the adoption process to ensure adequate care for children whose birth parents are not ready to be parents,” Bathusi said.

Another BCP candidate for Tati East Constituency, Thabologo Furniture, added that they will introduce stiff legislative regime for the drug industry.

“In our first legislative sitting, the BCP Government will introduce a mandatory life imprisonment without parole for Drug Lords in Botswana.

“Stiff penalties will also apply to those that are found in possession of drugs with intention to sell,” he said. BCP believes that investing in children, youth, and women is essential for the future of Botswana since they are the foundation of a productive, progressive, and prosperous society.

The BCP also believes that protecting and empowering these groups will have a significant economic impact and will help to build a stronger, more resilient nation.

The party believes that continued neglect of children, youth, and women could have serious economic and social consequences.
