Relegation Battle Intensifie­s

As the Botswana Football League (BFL) season enters its critical phase, the relegation battle has reached a fever pitch, with several teams fighting tooth and nail to avoid the dreaded drop to lower divisions.

After 18 games, Nico United finds themselves rooted at the bottom of the log with 15 points, below Police XI who have 16 points in 15th position. Morupule Wanderers, also on 16 points, are among the teams embroiled in the relegation scrap, while Holy Ghost hovers just above the danger zone with 17 points. VTM shares the same points as Holy Ghost but with a superior goal difference.

In addition to these teams, Masitaoka and Eleven Angels are also not safe from relegation, both having accumulate­d 19 points but still within striking distance of the bottom.

The upcoming fixtures promise to be crucial for the teams battling to avoid relegation. Holy Ghost faces a daunting challenge as they take on Orapa United this Friday at the Francistow­n Council Stadium. Police XI, on the other hand, will visit Matebele FC on Sunday, hoping to secure valuable points to climb out of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Morupule Wanderers will host Gaborone United in Palapye in what is expected

to be a fiercely contested match.

With the intense relegation battle, coaches and players alike are aware of the gravity of the situation and the importance of every remaining game, tactics and strategies are expected to come to play in the last phase of the league as survival remains vital for most teams.

Although teams are fully aware of the significan­ce

of each match at this stage of the season, they have to remain consistent and accumulate the points when it matters as every point matters, and will determine who secures a place in the league.
