The song was composed by Mshilo, while it was mixed and mastered at KK Music Production where it was also recorded. It was produced by Kuseri Kumakili and arranged by Isaac Tau. Mshilo told Vibe that for this song, she draws inspiration from traditional Ikalanga music and has blended it with contemporary jazz elements, to simply craft a truly unique and unforgettable listening experience. “The song draws inspiration from jealousy which often find its way into friendships. ‘Mmankuye’ sheds light into the struggles and conflicts that arise when jealousy creeps into friendships, touching upon themes of betrayal, longing and ultimately forgiveness,” shared Mshilo.
