BERRY HEART INTRODUCES ARTISAN WORKSHOP

- BY IRENE SHONE

Keotshepile Motseonageng, affectionately known as Berry Heart says it takes the whole community to create diversity within the local arts scene.

She is creative artiste and owner of Berry Heart Creations. The past two years have been very hard on business for her as a creative, but she chose to think outside the box to make an impact. “I chose not to fall but had embarked on a life changing journey for me and my community. I built an artisan workshop in one of my farms in Magagarape, where we do production of hand crafts. We have shoes, clothing and accessories that I bring to my shop in

Phakalane Mowana Mall sell and give 90 percent of proceeds to artisans,” she shared. The artists were trained by experienced artisans from all around the world in August 2023. She believes that her workshop will not only benefit those in need but also contribute to her own growth, impact, and legacy in society. She is also convinced that as a public figure from a poor community, engaging in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives is crucial. “By giving back to your community, you serve as a role model for others from similar backgrounds and inspire them to believe in their potential and strive for success. I also believe that this helps in addressing social issues because CSR allows one to address pressing social issues in the community, such as poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, contributing to long-term sustainable development,” she said. She also added that giving back demonstrates one’s commitment to social causes beyond personal gain, building trust and enhancing reputation among fans, stakeholders, and the public. She firmly believes that giving back could also foster empowerment, and thereby provide access to resources, opportunities, and support systems that enable them to improve their lives and pursue their dreams, as well as create economic opportunities. “By investing in local businesses, entrepreneurship programs, and skill development initiatives, you can stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities within your community,” she shared.
