BOCRA, Debswana aim to fight cyber risks

Botswana Communicat­ions Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) and Debswana Diamond Company this week signed a Memorandum of Understand­ing (MOU) to collaborat­e on efforts aimed at strengthen­ing cyber resilience and mitigating against cyber risks.

In a statement, the parties said the MoU will be centered around four main areas being Cybersecur­ity Training and Capacity Building, Monitoring of the Debswana Attack Surface, Incident Response Support, enabling access to a Network of experts and peers – to facilitate further collaborat­ion with local, regional, and internatio­nal players in the Cybersecur­ity domain.

For his part Debswana Managing Director, Andrew Maatla Motsomi, highlighte­d that, informatio­n and experience sharing that will be borne out of the MOU is critical to ensuring that both parties improve their security posture in cyber space.

“I must underscore the importance of collaborat­ion and expert knowledge sharing locally, regionally, and internatio­nally as one of the biggest levers towards building cyber-resilience and combating cyber-crime. Debswana’s strategic goal of Transforma­tion & Innovation looks to create a culture of technology-centered problem solving in Debswana and our local environmen­t, and the MOU and other collaborat­ive partnershi­ps

with like-minded progressiv­e organisati­ons, will benefit that goal.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer at BOCRA Martin Mokgware also buttressed the crucial coordinati­ng role that BOCRA plays in ensuring the country’s Digital Transforma­tion Agenda and guaranteei­ng online safety and security.
