WHY MOLEPS, WHY?

Elders in Molepolole say the village is gripped by ill omen Nation urged to pray for Molepolole

The Chairperson of Molepolole Ministers’ Fraternal Diane Mogome says there is need for the leader of the Bakwena tribe, Kgosi Kgari Sechele to call his people and try to root out why his village is always the bearer of bad news in the country.

The death of 45 people who perished in South Africa last week after a bus they were traveling in fell off a bridge and exploded, has added more misery to Bakwena.

And they are now more than convinced that there is something going on unnoticed in Molepolole. All the pain and horror stories occurring in their village cannot be normal, they say.

“We need prayers, we need Kgosi to call us, so that we we talk extensively about the happenings in Molepolole. We cannot go on as normal. A lot has happened in a short period of time. The people are crying and in pain,” he said. Further, he said Bakwena need to introspect, find out if they are moving in the same direction or divided. “A divided

community gets easily attacked. We need to pull in the same direction to be able to defeat whatever attack is happening,” Mogome said. Village elder, Kholenyane Botlhoko said the pain is unbearable. “When the news hit us, I was unable to go to church, especially since I had relatives on the bus. We need prayers from all the bad things that have

been happening to Molepolole. This one takes the trophy. Words are not enough to explain the pain we are experiencing,” she said.

Archbishop Alfred Onneile Motshwarakgole of City of God Apostle Church in Molepolole said prayer is the only way out. Botswana, he said, should unite in prayer and pray for Molepolole village. “Surely there is something happening, it cannot only be Molepolole. Why are other villages in the country not experiencing what we go through? God have mercy on us. We cannot see it but there is something happening unnoticed,” he said. Meanwhile, less than 24 hours after news spread about the bus accident, another bus carrying 77 passengers from Gaborone en-route Maun, caught fire and burnt to ashes in Gamodubu, about 30km from Molepolole. Two women from Ramotswa and Tlokweng burnt and died inside the bus. Four months ago, Molepolole was up in smoke following what is suspected to have been the ritual killing of Phenyo Jakoba who was found dead by the police with some of his body parts missing.

The matter gripped the attention of the country as angry villagers burnt a house they deemed housed suspects in one of the murder cases. They also burned down the village kgotla and smashed windowpanes of the administrative block, stating that the village leadership was dragging its feet on the matter.

In the same week, the body of a 19-year-old One Motlhabakgomo also from Molepolole, was found buried in a shallow grave. Allegations are that the main suspect in her murder was her boyfriend, who has since fled the country.
