DEBSWANA HOSTS WITS BUSINESS SCHOOL STUDENTS
Debswana hosted the Wits Business School Master of Business Administration (MBA) cohort on a learning tour recently. This marked the third group of MBA students, since 2022, from the University of Witwatersrand graduate studies programme. During the visit, Debswana shared insights from its current business strategy, dubbed ‘One Dream One Team,’ and provided an overview of its journey regarding the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Framework. The cohort comprised senior leaders from the banking, technology, insurance, and government sectors. They expressed keen interest in understanding Debswana’s ESG journey. Debswana Presentation on ESG highlighted both successes and opportunities arising from the framework’s implementation. Additionally, Debswana discussed its Social Impact programme, which has significantly enhanced livelihoods, community health, education, and skills development over the years. Wits Business School organised this tour across the SADC region to expose its MBA learners to diverse businesses. engagement at the mine. Giving an overall outlook on mine’s plans, success stories including ongoing projects, Gadifele emphasized the need for the community leaders to know what’s happening in the mine as they have access to the wider public out there and are able to articulate them better to their constituents. Among some of the presented projects was the ongoing Jwaneng - Magagarape road upgrade, the Jwaneng Airport updgrade as well as the much anticipated Jwaneng Underground Project. In his remarks, he emphasized the need for collaboration between the mine and the district administration at large as this ensures transparency and builds trust between both parties as key decision makers in the Mine’s area of impact.
Jwaneng district Mayor Olga Ditsie acknowledged that a lot still needs to be done to uplift communities in the zone of impact, emphasising the importance of collaboration. “I would like to see this important gesture by Debswana General Managers continue and we expect to see the value of these engagement in our community.”
