Letshwiti continues to preach commercialisation
Botswana Football Association (BFA) President MacLean Letshwiti urged local football clubs to take professionalization and commercialization seriously. He emphasized that these two elements are crucial for the growth and development of football in Botswana.
At the Gaborone United Sporting Club sponsorship launch on Tuesday, BFA President MacLean Letshwiti spoke at length about the importance of commercialization and professionalization for local clubs. He stressed that clubs cannot survive without partners and sponsors and urged them to take themselves seriously and work to make themselves more attractive to potential partners and sponsors.
“When I was elected as president of the association, commercialization and professionalization were two of my top priorities. I’m a passionate believer in professional and commercialized football in Botswana, but I’m concerned that many clubs are not taking these two things seriously.
We’re not where we should be in terms of these two crucial elements, but I believe that we will get there,” Letshwiti said.
“We’re making progress towards a more professional and commercialized football system in Botswana, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Clubs need to realize that partnerships and sponsorships are essential for their sustainability. I urge all clubs in Botswana to do everything they can to make themselves attractive to sponsors and partners. This is the only way we can achieve our goal of fully professional football in the country,” he added. “No club can survive without sponsorship, so it’s important for them to seek out partners, If we want our football to become more commercialized and professionalized, clubs need to attract more sponsors,” Letshwiti mentioned. “I want to encourage all Botswana football teams to understand that their sustainability depends on their partnerships with the corporate world. They need to embrace these partnerships and sponsorships if they want to succeed for a long term,” he added.
