Vee’s journey to becoming a legal practitioner

- BY POTLAKO BOGATSU

In a remarkable testament to the human spirit’s boundless potential for reinvention, Botswana’s musical icon, Odirile Sento, better known as Vee, is embarking on an extraordinary journey from the stage to the courtroom.

Vee, who recently attained his certificate in law has already begun his journey to get a Diploma in Law at Gaborone College of Law.

With his sights set firmly on the pursuit of legal knowledge, Vee’s transition from celebrated artist to aspiring legal practitioner is captivating hearts and minds across the nation.

At the heart of Vee’s ambitious undertaking lies a profound desire to effect tangible change in the lives of his fellow citizens. Citing the prevalence of legal pitfalls and injustices that plague ordinary individuals, Vee sees his expedition into the realm of law as a natural progression in his quest to serve the community.

“I’ve witnessed first-hand the devastating consequences of poorlydrafted contracts and legal ignorance,” Vee reflects earnestly. “I refuse to stand idly by when my people are in need of advocacy and support. It’s time to leverage my platform for something greater than music.”

Indeed, Vee’s journey towards legal proficiency has been no easy feat. Faced with the daunting task of navigating complex legal concepts and rigorous academic demands, the artist acknowledges the moments of doubt and exhaustion that have peppered his path. Yet, propelled by an unwavering sense of purpose and fortified by his faith, Vee remained resolute in his determination to forge ahead. Drawing parallels between his current academic pursuits and his previous studies in pastoral care, Vee noted that there are similarities between the two as both academic pursuits demand one to study hard and research a lot. “Just as I leaned on my faith during my pastoral studies,

I draw strength from God in my pursuit of legal knowledge,” Vee explained. However, Vee’s aspirations extend far beyond the acquisition of a mere certificate; his ultimate goal is nothing short of attaining a fully-fledged law degree. With an eye towards a future in politics and public service, Vee emphasises the indispensable role that legal acumen plays in effective governance.

“Politicians must possess a deep understanding of the law in order to enact meaningful change,” Vee said, arguing that it is not enough to simply craft legislation; one must comprehend the intricate interplay between positive law and natural law in order to address the needs of society. Vee implores individuals of all ages to pursue their dreams relentlessly, regardless of the obstacles that may lie in their paths. “Determination knows no bounds,” he said. “If I can embark on this journey in my 40s, then anyone can seize the opportunity to pursue their passions and effect positive change in the world,” Vee noted.
