COMPETITION COMES OF AGE

-

As the winners of the cash and car prizes were officially handed over their prizes on Thursday, it marked the 18th anniversary of the Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza Competition.

The competition has been held every year without interruption since its inception in 2003, reflecting the success story of Choppies as a retail giant. From the time when it started off with only two cars given away, to five cars, the competition has indeed come of age.

The Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza was introduced as one of Choppies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The mandate is specifically to give back and share in the success of the brand Choppies with loyal customers.

From 2003 to date the competition has grown in leaps and bounds, with many Batswana benefiting from the initiative. Thus far, over 200 vehicles have been awarded as grand prizes while millions of Pulas have been disbursed as cash prizes to deserving customers who have participated in the competition.

Choppies Marketing Officer, Kebonyemodisa Kebonyemodisa who shared the competition’s success story said in 2017, they introduced the staff car prize as part of also giving back to their employees.

“As part of a thank you to our staff, we introduced the staff prize in 2017, which was a car. However, we later on changed it to money,”

Kebonyemodisa said.

He stated that the competition has become national over the years to allow all Batswana across the country to benefit from the initiative.

He said that through the initiative, Choppies has touched the lives of many Batswana. Kebonyemodisa said they have been able to increase both the cash prizes and car prizes over the years, in line with the growth of the competition and the business.

Despite the disruptions brought by COVID-19, the competition’s 18th edition saw 91 customers each walking away P15 000 richer, while five were each awarded Toyota Hilux Bakkies.
