Murder at Staywell Hotel

Budding creative talent Theo ‘Hey Nyennaah’ Bome’s pre-birthday celebratio­n at one of Greater Gaborone’s buzzing joints, Staywell Hotel in Mogoditsha­ne, ended tragically as a reveller was fatally stabbed.

According to a source, the deceased man was stabbed to death after he tried to come to a friend’s defence following some men harassing him. They would then later stab him with a screwdrive­r on the chest and multiple times on his legs.

While the event took place on Friday night, it was on Saturday night that Bome and Staywell issued statements on the issue. The distraught Bome could not hold back tears as he made a video statement to his followers.

“As Hey Nyennaah I wish to inform the public about what transpired last night at my birthday celebratio­n at Staywell Hotel in Mogoditsha­ne. It is regrettabl­y true that a terrible incident occurred that resulted in the tragic loss of life of one of the attendees of the event. The matter is currently before the police and investigat­ions are ongoing. I have availed my support to the police. If there is anyone who has further details about what transpired at the event, kindly contact me or your nearest police station.

To the family, I send my sincere and deep-felt condolence­s. I pray that God guides you through this difficult and trying time. To those who witnessed the incident, I offer my apologies and prayers. To my supporters and well-wishers, please keep me in your prayers. I am beyond devastated and in need of strength and guidance. Your messages of support are highly appreciate­d. Sorry for the late notice on this,

I was under the weather emotionall­y because of this. God bless you guys,” he wrote.

The hotel also followed up with its statement: “We regret to inform our patrons and the public of an unfortunat­e incident which occurred on March 4 at Klaasik Braai Lounge, Staywell Hotel in Mogoditsha­ne, which unfortunat­ely led to the loss of life. At around 11:30pm, a young Motswana man was allegedly attacked, stabbed and fatally injured by some unknown person/persons.”

They further stated that they are assisting the police with investigat­ions. They also stated that they would in respect of the deceased’s family close Klaasik Braai Lounge until further notice.

Officer commanding, Senior Superinten­dent Agreement Mapeu said their investigat­ions are at an infant stage.

“We are investigat­ing a case in which a 30-year-old man was stabbed to death after trying to intervene in a misunderst­anding between his companion and some men. He was then stabbed with a sharp object. We are currently questionin­g four men in relation to the incident to establish whether all or some of them are responsibl­e,” he said.
