Kelvin Momo mesmerises Shela Nights

- Kabelo Boranabi Correspondent

If there was a word to describe this Saturday’ edition of Shela Nights would be ‘moja’. The phrase in South African slang has simple meaning of being cool. The word synchronises with Kelvin Momo’s lyrics of Iyembezi record and the song proved a popular for the crowd at Wagga Gardenex on Saturday. South African Amapiano DJ and producer, Kelvin Momo was the main artiste for Shela Nights held this weekend.

The event was organised in partnership with entertainment television station MTV Base South and BET Africa. A self proclaimed pioneer of ‘private school piano’, Kelvin Momo marvelled the crowd with jazzy Amapiano sounds.

Kelvin Momo played songs as Funa from his last album IVY League. But it was Iyembezi, which proved to be the crowd favourite on the night. The Soweto born DJ left the audience eating from the palm of their hands having played the vocals of Impilo from his debut album Momo’s Private School.

The song features Kabza De Small, Babalwa M, Koppz Avenue and Mhaw Keyz. The record was a club banger in 2020 and Kelvin Memo left the revelers yearning for more as he did not play the full version and it was the last act on stage on the night.

Earlier on, crowd favourite Casper the DJ, also had a good set on stage.

He had brought along NSI for his one hour set. The duo stuck to the melodic sounds of Amapiano as the set caught the mood of the night.

With the crowd now up on their feet, then jumped on stage DJ Nel with the Hip Hop and R&B vibes. The event was the first edition this year and three more events will follow.
